Betty Jo Gilbert Knight, 91, died July 8, 2018, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dane and Tim Sergeant.
Betty Jo, formerly of Bogalusa, resided with her family in Winterville, N.C., for the past five and a half years.
Betty Jo was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Joseph Coleman Knight; her parents, Harris Hamilton Gilbert and Callie Mansell Gilbert; and her brother, Harris Rudolph Gilbert.
Betty Jo resided in Bogalusa, where she was a member of Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. She was a former member of Civic League and Ingleside. From 1968-1972, she lived in Memphis, Tenn., and was an active member of Newcomers of Memphis. She was an outstanding cook and homemaker.
Betty Jo is survived by her daughters, Sharon Dane Sergeant and husband Tim of Winterville, and Carol Knight Boers and husband Tom of Columbus, Ga.; a grandson, Jonathan Coleman Sergeant and wife Wendy of Greenville, N.C.; granddaughters, Courtney Sergeant Moore and husband Chris of Six Mile, S.C., Colby Boers Biberstein and husband Andrew of Houston, Texas, and Caitlin Boers Leddy and husband Trey of Williamsburg, Va. Her beloved great grandchildren are Charlotte Ruby Moore of Six Mile and Coleman Allen Sergeant of Greenville.
Visitation was Tuesday, July 10, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Funeral services in Bogalusa will be Friday, July 20, at Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Bill Moon will officiate and interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
