A Bogalusa man was arrested Monday, after being wanted in connection with a shooting incident that took place last week, according to Maj. Percy Knight of the Bogalusa Police Department.

Knight said that on Thursday, July 5, an officer from the BPD’s Patrol Division heard what appeared to be multiple gunshots in the area of Long Avenue. The officer was flagged down a short time later, by a male driver in a vehicle who stated he was taking a victim to the hospital who had been shot by gunfire.

Knight said that BPD officers responded to Our Lady of the Angels Hospital and learned that the 45-year-old male victim, a Bogalusa resident, had been shot once in the hip area in the 1300 block of Dan Street. The BPD Detective Division was called out to investigate the shooting.

Knight said that the alleged suspect was identified as Andre D. Lucas, 26, of Bogalusa.

“The victim stated that he and Lucas got into a confrontation, where Lucas accused him of calling the police on him,” Knight said. “A short time later, the victim got into a vehicle with a friend. While the vehicle was parked, it was noticed that Lucas was approaching the victim with a handgun. The victim got out of the vehicle in attempt to run from Lucas.

“Lucas allegedly fired four or five rounds at the victim, striking him once in the hip area. Felony warrants were issued for the arrest of Andre Lucas.”

Knight said that BPD Detective Division officers observed Lucas leaving a store on Shenandoah Street on Monday. Officers then followed Lucas to a residence on Pine Ridge Road.

“The officers approached Lucas and placed him under arrest,” Knight said. “During the search of Lucas’ vehicle, officers located a bag with a large amount of methamphetamine, two cell phones and a digital scale that is commonly used for the sale and packaging of narcotics.”

Lucas was booked on the charges of attempted second-degree murder, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, four counts of illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a person under 17 years of age and two counts of failure to appear in the city court of Bogalusa.

Knight said that the BPD Detective Division obtained a search warrant to search Lucas’ residence for illegal narcotics. Officers executed the search warrant and located in Lucas’ bedroom was 82 grams of suspected marijuana, nine Suboxone strips and a Crown Royal bag containing bullets.

Lucas was arrested on the additional charges of aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of weapons and dangerous instruments, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of Schedule III narcotics.

Knight said that Lucas has been linked to a March 2018 incident in which he allegedly shot at another individual, and three arrest warrants are being sought in connection with that incident.
