5 FPD officers receive training

On Friday, June 29, Cpl. Ernest Corkern of the Franklinton Police Department graduated from the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Council School Resource Officer Training Course. This course is designed to provide experienced police officers with the training and tools needed to work within our schools to ensure the continued safety and security of children.

On the department’s Facebook page, FPD officials congratulated Corkern on this accomplishment and thanked him for working diligently to keep children safe.

Also on June 29, Cpl. Steven Galloway, Patrolman First Class James Harper, and Sgt. Jared Stubbs, of the FPD, graduated from the Saint Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Field Officer Training Course. This course is designed to provide experienced police officers with the tools needed to train the next generation of police officers who will provide for the safety and security of the Town of Franklinton for years to come.

FPD officials also congratulated Galloway, Harper and Stubbs on the dedication which they have demonstrated in order to undergo this training, and thanked them for the selfless effort they have agreed to put forward in order to train a new generation of competent and professional police officers.

FPD Sgt. Chad Dorsett also recently attended Interview and Interrogation training at Camp Shelby, Miss., provided by the Regional Counter-Drug Training Academy. Sgt. Dorsett was recently transferred to the Investigations Division.

Franklinton Police Chief Olander Smith commended all these officers for their dedication to the FPD and the citizens of Franklinton.
