Franklinton Police Chief Olander Smith announced Friday that Steve Lang has been chosen as the Franklinton Rotary Club’s Police Officer of the Year.

Lang started his career in law enforcement at the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office in July of 1992. He attended and graduated from the LSU Law Enforcement Academy in Baton Rouge in November of 1992.

Lang then worked in the Washington Parish Criminal Patrol division for 12 years before becoming a supervisor in 1994. Steve retired from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office after 22 years of service.

Unable to sit still very long and having too much time on his hands, Lang began work at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in March of 2014. He joined the Franklinton Police Department in April of 2016, where he is currently employed.

“Lang has 26 years of law enforcement experience,” Smith said. “I am honored to present Corporal Steve Lang as the Rotary Club Police Officer of the Year.”

Lang is the oldest child of Bill and Daisy Lang. He has a sister, Sandra, and a brother, Allen.

Lang is married to Latina Lang and they have three children — Chris, Kelly, and Steven.
