The Lions Club of Bogalusa had the honor and privilege of welcoming Louisiana State Sen. Beth Mizell as the guest speaker at their June 5 meeting.

Mizell gave a short update on upcoming legislation that could affect Washington Parish. Due to contributions from and the strong effort of Lions Club members, she was proud to announce that the traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial will be coming to the Washington Parish Fairgrounds on Nov. 15-18. Mizell personally thanked all the veterans who were at the meeting, before leaving for another engagement.

Also at the meeting was the Lions Club District Governor, Melvin Abbott. He was there for the 76th installation of new officers for the 2018-19 year. He encouraged the newly installed officers to serve proudly and faithfully.

The Lions Club meets twice a month on the first and third Tuesday. The club is known for its involvement with vision screenings and assisting in obtaining glasses for those who are unable to afford them.
