Road improvements are planned for several Bogalusa city streets next week, and city officials are asking motorists to avoid the area to ensure the closure is as short as possible.

James Hall, public works director for the city of Bogalusa, said that workers will be overlaying and re-striping a portion of several streets to the west of Richmond Street.

The planned project area will include Montgomery Street, from the intersection with Richmond to the intersection with Georgia Avenue. Work will then continue along Georgia Avenue, from the Montgomery Street intersection to the point where Georgia Avenue turns into Alabama Avenue. Finally, the project will include all of Alabama Avenue until its intersection with Memphis Street.

Hall said that the city is leaving a three-day window for the work to be completed, to start Monday and continue through Wednesday. However, he is hopeful that with citizens’ cooperation, the project may be done by Tuesday.

“We are just asking for drivers to avoid that part of the city for a few days,” Hall said. “It will help things go much smoother.”
