James Culpepper

James Alvin Culpepper, a longtime resident of Bogalusa, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at his residence in Bogalusa, at the age of 82. He was born on Oct. 25, 1935.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In 1968, he began working at Bogalusa Lumber Company, and 10 years later, on April 1, 1978, he became the owner and operator of Bogalusa Lumber Company. He was a Gideon and also a member and deacon at Lee’s Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lena Culpepper; his three sons, Joe (Ann) Culpepper of Bogalusa, Steve (Tomi) Culpepper of Bogalusa, and Ricky (Marsha) Culpepper of Bogalusa; one brother, Lamar (Maria) Culpepper of Strolling Hills, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Jenny (Dusty) Stewart, Michael (Jordan) Culpepper, Shelby (Savanna) Culpepper, Will Culpepper, Laken Culpepper, Colt Culpepper and Josh (Megan) Herndon, all of Bogalusa; and four great-grandchildren, Judson Herndon, Colby Stewart, Katey Stewart and Braden Culpepper.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Bertha Culpepper; and one brother, Joseph L. Culpepper.

Services for Mr. Culpepper were on Thursday, June 14, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa. Visitation began at 9 a.m. and continued until the funeral service began at 3 p.m. Interment followed at Lee’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Keith Sheridan and Rev. Dennis Allen officiated.

The pallbearers honoring Mr. Culpepper were Buddy Banks, Billy Pounds, Vic Boyles, Paul Lee, Luke Crain, Charles Morgan, Dusty Stewart and Shelby Culpepper.
