NTCC along with 49 other workplaces was recognized as one of the best places to work in 2018. A breakfast ceremony was held at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans to celebrate these outstanding companies.

Owen Smith, Director of Career Services, shared that “the event was amazing and it was an honor to be there.” Over 1,500 businesses participate and NTCC was the only higher education institution to be selected. Dr. William Wainwright, Chancellor of NTCC, shared with faculty and staff that “being selected one of 50 out of 1,500 is an incredible achievement.”

Dr. James Carlson, Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives for NTCC, made the nomination.

“My nominating NTCC as a Top Places to Work directly reflects my feelings about working for the college,” he said. “Being selected ninth overall in the mid-sized category only validates not only our mission in ‘Building Futures,’ but the overall satisfaction of employees, including myself, that work diligently in the mission.

“Being named Top Places to Work was based solely on an employee satisfaction survey, but NTCC being the top places to work is based on opportunities, attitude, and culture throughout the year.”

Staff completed surveys that would ultimately determine employee satisfaction at Northshore.

Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration, Marc Chauvin, shared his thoughts by saying “research has proven that happy employees are more efficient, more creative, and more productive in the workplace.”

“Feeling valued and appreciated are crucial components that lead to employee happiness and retention, which then progresses customer service for our students,” Chauvin said. “I’m proud and blessed to be a part of our college, which was awarded one of the 2018 ‘50 Top Workplaces’ in the greater New Orleans area.”

The recognition brought pride to not only the college but also to individual staff. Kimberly Showers, Director of Accounting, stated. “I was proud to be a Gator.”
