On June 17, 1955, John (J.Y.) Jones was born to the late John and Mary Peters Jones in Angie. J.Y. departed this life on April 29, 2018, surrounded by family and friends.

He was baptized at an early age at Mary’s Chapel U.M. Church in Varnado, where he attended Sunday school, choir and MYF and was active in all activities of the church and community. John knew the object of Christ’s death was life, and that a Christian death gives him abundant life.

John was united in marriage to Sandra Ishman Jones for 36 years, the love of his life. John leaves to cherish his memories: wife Sandra; four sons; two daughters; two sisters; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; daughters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and lifelong family members that are brothers by love and cousins that are dear to his heart.

Visitation will be public viewing Friday, May 4, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. with a family hour from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. with pastor Nolan Robinson at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home in Bogalusa. The funeral service will be Saturday, May 5, at Mary’s Chapel U.M. Church in Varnado starting at 11 a.m.
