Voters in Washington Parish will go to the polls Saturday to decide on a pair of new taxes.

In Bogalusa, citizens will vote on whether the city should add 12 mills to its current property tax — an effective increase of 25 percent. The tax would be used to stabilize the city’s retirement benefits and pension system.

Also in Washington Parish, voters in Parish School District No. 4 will decide whether to pass a $28 million school bond issue.

If approved, the money would be used to build a new Franklinton Jr. High School on Section Line Road to replace the old FJHS building on Main Street. It also would pay for new classrooms and other additions at Pine Senior/Junior High School and Thomas Elementary School.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Bring a driver’s license or state photo ID.
