Doris Jeanette Borden McElveen passed away on April 25, 2018. She was born on March 20, 1927. Mrs. McElveen was a secretary who received her training at Soulet Business College in New Orleans. She worked at the Credit Bureau of Bogalusa with her husband, Ray, until its closing. Doris was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church as well as a member of Ruth Bennett’s ladies Bible class at Superior Ave. Baptist Church. She loved flowers and was a member of the garden club for many years.

Mrs. McElveen is survived by her children, Judith McElveen Cougle (Dr. Allan Cougle) of Pearl River, the Rev. Grant McElveen (Gail Williams) of Jackson, Miss., and Evan “Buddy” McElveen (Judge Kay Bates) of Abita Springs. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and her sisters, Barbara Hayden of Bogalusa and Jill McDaniel (Oliver) of Baton Rouge.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 57 years, E.R. “Ray” McElveen of Bogalusa; her son, David Borden “Pokey” McElveen, most recently of Spain; her loving parents, Lionel Borden and Eldora Bennett Borden of Bogalusa; her brother, Lionel “Duffy” Borden Jr. of Hammond; and her sisters, Margaret Baumkirchner of Arizona and Antionette Bryant of Louisiana, Arizona, and Alabama.

Doris loved her Lord. She died with faith in Jesus and was looking forward to seeing Ray, Margaret, Ann, Poky, her mother and daddy, Mr. and Mrs. McElveen (in-laws), Fran, E.E., Catherine and many others again in Heaven.

A graveside service will be held this Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Ponemah Cemetery, arranged by Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons; Christopher, Joshua, Jesse and David Cougle, Jonathan, and Andrew and Drake McElveen.

The family would personally like to thank Richanda “Cookie” Waterson, Becky Welch of Timeless Grace and staff, especially Terena, Pam, Alice, and others, as well as our beloved cousin Terry Hayden Coxe who were all so kind, loving, and giving to our mother and a great blessing to us.

We thank our Lord Jesus Christ that He blessed us with our dear “Mammaw” for 91 years. Countless lives are better for having known her. We will see her again.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Bogalusa.
