Fair, students win at state convention

The Washington Parish Fair was recently honored at the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals annual convention.
WPFF President Jackie Boone is pleased to announce that the fair received awards for Fair of the Year, Best Program Book, and Best Marketing Items. Longtime volunteer Dianne Applewhite received the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Additionally, students from the parish won awards in the poster and writing categories. Bailey Burdette received first place in the Poster Contest along with second place winners Hayden Owens and Marleigh Schilling and third place winner Ethan Sharp. The artwork centered on the theme “My Fair/My Festival.”
Emily Corkern was awarded third place for her essay on the topic “What would be the best way to end bullying in your school?”
Boone presented the students with their ribbons and monetary awards at the April meeting of the Fair Association. She also complimented Fair Queen Kayla McGee on her enthusiastic participation in the Queen of Queens pageant.
