George Corkern

George Hollis Corkern, 76, of Bogalusa and Sandy Hook, Miss., passed away at Lakeview Regional Medical Center on April 17, 2018.

He served for 20 years in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, and Louisiana Army National Guard as special warfare, a mechanic, a supply sergeant and a medic. He will best be remembered as a loving father and loyal friend, who had a kind and gentle spirit and a willingness to help and serve others.

He is survived by his five children, Tushanna Boaz, George Lester Corkern, Billy Ray Corkern, Natasha Williams and Danielle Wilson; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters; and numerous cherished family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Corkern; his parents Martha Ellen and Lester Corkern of Isabel; and 10 siblings.

Cremation will be by Bagnell and Son Funeral Services of Covington.

At a later date, a private ceremony will be held at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, where he be inurned with military honors.
