Police are currently investigating a homicide that took place in Bogalusa during the Easter holiday weekend.

Maj. Percy Knight, public information officer for the Bogalusa Police Department, said that on Saturday, March 31, at 8 p.m., the BPD received a call in reference to a vehicle that had crashed into the east entrance of the Our Lady of Angels Hospital.

“The hospital staff and security observed a male driver still inside the vehicle that was bleeding from injuries that needed medical assistance,” Knight said.

The hospital staff took the victim into the emergency room to start treatment on his injuries, Knight said. The hospital’s medical staff discovered that the victim had been shot multiple times.

“When the BPD officers arrived, a security officer from the hospital stated that initially the victim was responsive and able to speak but now he has become unresponsive,” Knight said. “The victim, identified as Gary Bridges, 27, had succumbed to his injuries.

“It was determined that Bridges was shot multiple times at the corner of Hickory Avenue and Warren Street. Bridges somehow drove himself to the hospital.”

This case has been turned over to the BPD Detective Division, which is currently conducting an investigation.

Anyone with information concerning Bridges’ death is urged to call the BPD Detective Division at 985-732-6238.
