Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal has joined with nearly 400 sheriffs from throughout the United States to push Congress to take action on securing America’s borders and other matters against illegal immigration.

A letter signed by Seal and 379 other sheriffs was recently delivered to every member of Congress. In the letter, Sheriff Seal and his fellow sheriffs appeal to Congress to secure the nation’s borders and to appropriately deal with illegal immigration and sanctuary policies.

“I and my fellow sheriffs all across this great country are calling on Congress to take action now on the security issues at the border and against sanctuary polices in certain states, cities and towns,” Seal said. “These sanctuary policies directly undermine and limit cooperation and collaboration between local, state and federal law enforcement, making it more difficult for America’s sheriffs to protect our citizens and legal residents.

“In addition, the growing prevalence of gangs, such as MS-13 and others that operate back and forth across our borders has become worse because of our failure to secure the border and the catch and release policies of some jurisdictions. Enough is enough.”

Seal said that his deputies will continue to take on the problem of illegal immigration, regardless of whether or not Congress acts on the letter.

“The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office has and will continue to cooperate with all local, state and federal law enforcement officials to combat all manners of criminal activity, including that associated with illegal immigration,” he said. “I and my fellow Sheriffs have signed the letter because Congress cannot continue to weaken our efforts to make our communities as safe as possible.”
