Iris P. Griffin, born on March 13, 1926, slipped into the arms of God on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

She was the best mom, grandmother, and great-grandma that anyone could ever have. She truly loved her family, her church, and most importantly her Lord.

Her earthly family includes her son, David A. Griffin; her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Brian Baughman; grandchildren, Brad and Raven Baughman, and Blake and Stacey Baughman; and her great-grandchildren, Brycen Baughman, Elizabeth Baughman, and Parker Baughman. She is also survived by two sisters, Charlene Stringer and Iva Mize; a brother-in-law, John “Jack” LaBauve; a sister-in-law, Kaye Griffin; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Alfred Albert Griffin; her parents, B.E. Sr. and Ovie Patten; brothers, Wesley, Wilson, and B.E., Jr.; and sisters, Wilder and Lila.

Iris grew up in a large family, helping with the dairy and crops. She graduated from Dexter High School as salutatorian and began working at Pigott’s Drug Store in Tylertown, Miss. Following World War II, she met and married our dad, Alfred Griffin, in 1950. They moved to Bogalusa, then New Orleans, for him to attend barber school and back to Bogalusa. During those years she worked in department stores.

After having children, she was a stay home wife, mom, room mother, chauffeur, etc. always taking care of her family. She enjoyed being active in her church, Westside Emmanuel, serving in many ways through the years including first grade Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, and working with children’s choir and Training Union. She was also a member of WMU and helped with showers, meals at church, as well as, for the bereaved, and with sending cards or making calls to the sick or bereaved. She truly enjoyed serving others.

For years she enjoyed growing a vegetable garden and preparing the food for freezer or canning.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 29, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday, March 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m. at Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church.
