Lincoln-Reagan banquet held in Covington

The Republican groups of Washington and St Tammany Parishes held their annual Lincoln-Reagan Banquet at the Tchefuncta Country Club in Covington on Saturday, March 17.

This was the first year Washington Parish joined the event. The keynote speaker was U.S. Senator John Kennedy (R-LA). Kennedy provided an update on the current issues being debated in the U.S. Senate. The attendees also heard from Louis Gurvich, recently elected chairman of the Louisiana Republican Party, regarding the status of the party and upcoming programs.

One of the highlights of the event was honoring State Sen. Beth Mizell (R-Franklinton) as the Washington Parish Republican of the Year. Sen. Mizell was recognized for her leadership in local and state issues. The nomination and award was made by Washington Parish Republican organizations.

Ms. Odette Jennings was honored as the St Tammany Parish Republican of the Year for her work with Republican Teens. A Special Service Award was issued to Pam and Peter Egan for their years of service to the Republican Party.
