BHS wins district championship in Jr. ROTC

The Lumberjack Battalion hosted its drill competition here at Bogalusa High School on Saturday, March 24. The BHS Lumberjack Cadets competed against seven other schools from the surrounding areas — Northshore High, Salmen High, Fontainebleau High, Franklinton High, Mandeville High, Hammond High, and Petal High, from Petal, Miss.

Bogalusa placed first overall in the competition, outdoing Petal by only four points. Mandeville took third place, Northshore finished in fourth and Franklinton took fifth.

The Lumberjack Battalion was announced as the 2018 Army Northshore District Champions, after the closing ceremony.

Drill competition events conducted Saturday included: Physical Fitness, Un-Armed Inspection, Regulation and Exhibition; Armed, Regulation and Exhibition; Male and Female Color Guard, Tug-A-War, and the Knockout Drill.

The Lumberjacks were awarded in the following categories:

  • The Armed Regulation team placed first.
  • The Unarmed Regulation team placed second, Armed Exhibition team placed third, and the Male and Female Color Guard teams each placed third.

The knockout drill was conducted at the end of all events and the Lumberjack Battalion cadets took home two of the three places. First place went to Robert Williams, and third place went to Jaylon Scott.

Most Push-Ups was awarded to Terry Owens and the Most Sit-Ups was awarded to Jameka Lucas.

The cadets have one last stop in their drill season and will travel to LSU for the 2018 Pershing Rifles Company D-17 Drill Competition.
