A Washington Parish sheriff’s deputy was involved in a shooting incident early Friday morning, in which a suspect was fatally shot and the deputy was injured, according to Trooper Dustin Dwight of the Louisiana State Police.

Dwight said that the preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 3:30 a.m. Friday, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to a suspicious person on a motorcycle at the boat launch on Poole’s Bluff Road in Bogalusa.

Shortly after the initial WPSO deputy’s arrival, a struggle with the suspect and deputy ensued, Dwight said. Additional law enforcement officers were requested to respond to the scene.

Dwight said that two officers with the Bogalusa Police Department were the first to arrive on scene, and observed the suspect struggling with the deputy. Shots were fired, and the suspect was killed, Dwight said. Dwight identified the suspect as Daniel Allen Young, 32, of Bogalusa.

The deputy was transported to Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa, where he is being treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

Dwight said that this is still an active investigation and no other information was immediately available at the time. The WPSO requested for the LSP Bureau of Investigations to investigate the incident.
