Sidney ‘Buddy’ Lyons

Sidney “Buddy” John Lyons, 78, a resident of Angie, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

He worked for the Bogalusa Police Department, then went to work for the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office. He also worked for the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and retired as the rank of Major. He returned to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office and served 16 years. He worked under Sheriff Dorman Crowe, Sheriff Duane Blair and Sheriff Aubrey Jones and retired in 2007 for the final time.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard. He attended Pearl River Community College and received an associate’s degree in Forestry. He attended various law enforcement schools all over the south. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church, and he was a member of the Masonic Center Lodge #244.

He is survived by his wife, Judy McMillan Lyons; his son, John Patrick Lyons and his children, Elizabeth Edholm (Tyler), Johnathan Patrick Lyons, Emma Grace Lyons, and Maggie Claire Lyons; his son, James Shannon Lyons and his children, Zachary Robert Lyons, Arianna H. Lyons, and Sarah Jane Lyons; great-grandchildren, Alaina Edholm, Savanah Edholm, and Anna Grace Temples; a sister, Susan Lyons Huray (Dr. Paul G.); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Lyons and Emma Jean Brickey; and a sister, Jamie Brickey.

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 14, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Eric Williams and the Rev. Bobby Thornhill officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mike “Monk” Murray, Scott Adams, Lorenzo Rayford, Donnie Ray Phelps, Mike Godwin and Tom Anderson.
