Sheriff’s Office seizes illegal drugs

After receiving numerous tips from concerned citizens, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office recently began a drug investigation focusing on one residence in the Pine community.

Chief Deputy Mike Haley said that the WPSO Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration obtained a search warrant for the residence of Carla Renee Thomas, 43. Upon entering her residence, DTF detectives and DEA agents discovered approximately 79.7 grams of methamphetamine, 26.6 grams of marijuana, Xanax, Tramadol, Suboxone, Clonazepam, digital scales, drug paraphernalia, one pistol and one rifle, Haley said.

Thomas was arrested and placed in the Washington Parish Jail on Wednesday, charged with three counts of distribution of Schedule II drugs, one count of distribution of Schedule III drugs, three counts of possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs, one count of possession with intent to distribute Schedule III drugs and one count of possession of Schedule IV drugs. She remains in jail with her bond set at $300,000.

“Once again we see the value of a joint effort between your Sheriff’s Office and the DEA to eradicate illegal narcotics in Washington Parish and put drug dealers in jail,” Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said. “It is a great partnership and we will continue to work together on behalf of the good citizens of our parish.”
