This week, the city of Bogalusa planted 45 trees and 50 mixed-color Louisiana irises to beautify Cassidy Park.

The trees included eight Pond Cypresses, 12 Longleaf Pines, five Swamp Red Maples, five Mayhaws, five Spruce Pines, three Swamp Titis, and six Native Yaupon trees.

Terry “Foots” Quinn, the unofficial “Tree Man of Cassidy Park,” said he was especially glad about the longleaf pines.

“(The longleaf pine is) the reason why Bogalusa is now a place, and the reason the whole Southeast was developed,” he said.
