A Bogalusa man was recently charged with attempted murder, and police are still seeking for a second suspect in connection with the same case.

Chief Deputy Mike Haley of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office said that on Thursday, Feb. 8, the WPSO arrested Shaquille Jorvousa Lewis, 24, a resident of East 3rd Street in Bogalusa. Lewis is in the Washington Parish Jail and charged with attempted second-degree murder. His bond has been set at $150,000.

Haley said that Lewis and a companion, Damien Thompson, 26, were involved in a home invasion north of Bogalusa in which a person was shot. Thompson’s last known address was on Wilmuth Street in Bogalusa and he is believed to be hiding out in north Bogalusa, Haley said. The person who was shot was treated at a local hospital and released.

Haley said that on Wednesday, Feb. 7, Lewis and Thompson, armed with pistols, forced their way into the residence north of Bogalusa and went to a bedroom where the victim was located. They began hitting him with their pistols and, after a struggle, started shooting at him, hitting him once, Haley said. The victim was able to flee after being shot and the two shooters then left the residence.

Haley said that the shooting remains under investigation and the motive is unknown.

Any person who has information about the shooting or the location of Damion Thompson is asked to contact Detective Corbet Hunt at 985-839-3434. Thompson has outstanding warrants for attempted second-degree murder and contempt of court, Haley said.

Lewis and Thompson are not strangers to the Washington Parish Jail. Lewis was arrested in 2011 and remained in jail before being released on a $15,000 bond. His charges at that time were domestic abuse of a pregnant woman and simple battery with injury. He was arrested again in January of 2012 and remained in jail for four months before his release on a $30,000 bond for charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and criminal damage to property.

Lewis had an additional 2012 arrest in August on charges of burglary of an inhabited dwelling and possession of stolen property. After a six-month stay in jail, he was released on a $10,000 bond. His next arrest was in June 2015, which kept him in jail for 13 months before being released on a $250,000 bond. His charges included armed robbery, aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and illegal discharge of a weapon.

Thompson’s previous stays in the Washington Parish Jail were in 2014 and 2017. His 2014 arrest was for attempted second-degree murder. He remained in jail for one year before his release on a $100,000 bond. The 2017 arrest kept him in jail for six days on charges of attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery. He was released after posting a $60,000 bond.

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal expressed his desire to capture Thompson as soon as possible.

“We know that he carries a weapon and consider him to be armed and dangerous,” Seal said. “We need to get him off of our streets and into our jail. I encourage anyone with information about Thompson’s location to call and let us know. It is not necessary that you give your name.

“Let’s do the right thing and get Thompson in custody before he hurts someone else.”
