At approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a fatal motorcycle crash on LA 450 north of LA 10 in Washington Parish. The crash has claimed the life of 47-year-old Matthew A. Bilello of Franklinton.
The initial investigation has led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Bilello was riding a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on LA 450.  For reasons still under investigation, Bilello failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. As Bilello traveled through the curve, his motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway. Bilello was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a culvert. Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Bilello sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office.  Impairment is not considered as a contributing factor in this crash. As part of the on-going investigation, blood samples were obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions. Remind them to always wear a seatbelt, never drive impaired and to avoid distractions. The conversation could be the difference in a serious crash.
