A Tylertown, Miss., man died Tuesday, Feb. 6, after running head-on into an 18-wheeler just outside of Poplarville, Miss.

Cpl. Chase Elkins, public affairs officer for the Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Troop K, said that the incident happened about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on Mississippi Highway 26, near C.J. Seals Road.

Elkins said it appeared that Andrew Olen Pierce, 27, was driving a yellow 2002 Jeep Wrangler and was traveling east on Highway 26 when he crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane.

He then hit a westbound green 2006 Freightliner driven by William Simmons, 52, of Wiggins, Miss.

Pierce was pronounced dead at the scene, Elkins said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Simmons, the Freightliner driver, reported no injuries, and was wearing a seat belt.
