In July of 2017, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ronnie Manning was working south of Bogalusa when he saw a plume of smoke and went to investigate. He discovered an overturned and burning car with two women trapped inside.

Manning retrieved a hammer from his vehicle and broke out the rear window of the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames. His quick and heroic actions saved the lives of the two women who were able to escape through the opening Manning created.

On Friday, Woodmen Life recognized Manning and presented him with their “Life Savers Award.” Jonathan Williams, field representative for Woodmen Life, presented Manning with the award.

Sheriff Randy Seal commented on Manning’s recognition.

“This is a well-deserved award and I thank WoodmenLife for recognizing the life-saving efforts of Deputy Manning,” Seal said. “He is a very humble man who seeks no recognition for doing what he considers his duty. It pleases me to see him recognized. Thanks, Ronnie, for a job well done.”
