Krewe of Pepe to roll on Sunday, Feb. 11

The Krewe of Pepe in Franklinton has announced its grand marshal for the 2018 parade, Reginald McMasters.

The parade king and queen will be King Chaz Baker and Queen Renada Baker.

The parade will be Sunday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. Line-up for the parade is around the Jack Brown Food Store and rules are as follows:

  • No bicycles or four-wheelers.
  • No cars that are not decorated, with the exception of antique cars.
  • Every entry must have a number, which can be picked up at 1 p.m. at the parade site. Otherwise, you will be pulled out of the parade.
  • All horse riders must have the proper papers from their veterinarian.
  • “Throws” are mandatory — it is a parade.

McMasters is a 1984 graduate of Franklinton High School and attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.

He is the son of Helen McMasters and the late Charles McMasters. He and his wife, Tracey Bickham McMasters, are the proud parents of Rakeyra McMasters and Brandon Moses McMasters. McMasters has four granddaughters, Manyah, Anyah, Ava Grace and Aaliyah McMasters.

McMasters is a lifelong member of Bethel Church of Christ Holiness. He is the Sunday school superintendent, the youth choir director, member of the brotherhood and serves on the trustee board.

McMasters began his career serving the citizens as an employee of the Town of Franklinton in 2001. He was promoted to Superintendent of Public Works in 2008. In 2015, he was elected as a member of the Washington Parish Council, and in 2017, he served as chairman of the council.

He also serves on the Rural Water Board and was president of that board for many years. McMasters takes pride in serving his community and keeping the town of Franklinton beautiful.

In his spare time, McMasters enjoys playing golf, fishing and hunting. But most of all, he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, and spoiling his children. His motto is: “A man that hath friends must first show himself friendly.”
