Doris McGehee

Doris Luella Corkern McGehee, 92, of Bogalusa, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018.

Born on April 2, 1925, to T.L. and Ella Corkern, Doris was one of nine siblings. Following her graduation from Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial Nursing School, Doris spent her life in service to the people of Washington Parish as a surgical nurse, home health nurse and a member of the Washington Parish Health Unit. With Robert McGehee, her husband of nearly 65 years, she raised two daughters and ran a successful business, The Country Fair Nursery.

Doris will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, selflessness and her legendary chicken and dumplings.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; grandson, Jon Christian Edmonston; and seven siblings.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Mercedes Corkern of Venezuela; brother-in-law, Jim McGehee; and sisters-in-law, Charlene Corkern and Marie McGehee of Bogalusa; daughter and son-in law, Barbara and Phillip Caldwell of Port Townsend, Wash., and their sons Brendan and Ethan; daughter, Catherine McGehee Edmonston of Corvallis, Ore., and her daughter Laura with George Edmonston Jr. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 4, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa and Monday, Feb. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Ben’s Ford Baptist Church, followed by a funeral and graveside service. Mrs. McGehee will be interned at the McGehee Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations made be made in Doris’s name to the McGehee Cemetery Fund (c/o Mark McGehee, 17518 Jerry McGehee Road, Bogalusa, LA 70427) or the Ben’s Ford Baptist Church Missionary Fund (58521 Highway 439, Bogalusa, LA 70427).

The family of Mrs. McGehee would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Rebecca Welch and the entire staff of Timeless Grace Assisted Living, for the tremendous care and love that they provided to her in her final years.
