Leonard Peters

Leonard Charles Peters, “Bubba,” was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Angie, to the late Thomas James Peters and the late Wilmuth Foster Peters. He passed Jan. 17, 2018.

Leonard accepted Christ and was a member of Pilgrim Rest M.B.C. Later, he became a member of Center Baptist Church and united with Sweet Beulah Baptist Church in Bogalusa, where he served until his death.

Leonard attended Wesley Ray Elementary and High School. He was married to the late Annie B. Jefferson Peters and had five daughters and two sons. He later married Gloria Jean Magee and three more sons were added to the family.

He was kind-hearted, loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend. He was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need and had many hobbies.

Leonard was preceded in death by parents, Thomas James and Wilmuth Foster Peters; two brothers, James E. (Dirickie) Peters and James Thomas (Tic) Peters; sister, Christine Peters Bickham; son, Sylvester “Sly” Magee; grandson, Leonard G. Peters Jr.; mother-in-law, Maudell Peters; sister-in-law, Irene Rogers-Brown; and son-in-law, Herman Reece.

Leonard is survived by wife, Gloria J. Peters; sisters, Ernestine Peters, Daisy L. (R. J.) Ratcliff; daughters, Wenn E. Jefferson-Reece, Augustine (Benjamin) Brown, Patricia (Eric) Marks, Lenora (Charles) Lynch, Wilhelmina (Michael) King; sons, Leonard G. (Valerie) Peters Sr., Johnny Will Magee, Craig M. (Tess) Peters and Rogie Magee; sisters-in-law, Estella Speights, Willena Jones; and a host of great and great great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, located at 809 E. Third St. in Bogalusa. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church, located at 1408 N. Roosevelt St. in Bogalusa. The Rev. Dr. James Magee, pastor and officiating, and Dr. Leonard G. Peters, eulogist. Interment will be at the Bogalusa Cemetery.
