Betty Jean Fields, a former resident of New Orleans, departed this life peacefully and went to her eternal rest on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was the third child born to the union of Robert Fields and Inez Nathaniel Fields. She received her education in Washington and Orleans Parish, and later attended Katie’s School of Beauty and Cosmetology, where she pursued one of her passions. Others were cooking, sharing in good decent fellowship with many, and sharing the goodness of Jesus to all she knew.

She was an employee of Hospital Drug Store in New Orleans for many years, where she touched so many lives. She was a dedicated member of Historic St. Peter A.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully in many offices. She then answered the call of ministry and evangelism and was ordained. She later returned to Bogalusa as the primary caregiver to her mother, until her mother’s passing.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Reginald (Rev. Frenika) Fields of Jacksonville, Fla., and Daryl Fields of Spring, Texas; three granddaughters, Daryon, Alyce and Daria, all of Spring; three grandsons, Jerahmy, Jeremiah and Jerrod of Jacksonville; three sisters, Alicia Fields of Bogalusa, Eleanor (Steve) Banks of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Velma Fields of Baton Rouge; one brother, Melvin Fields of Bogalusa; one sister-in-law, Cora E. Fields of Bogalusa; three godchildren, Shanté Johnson of New Orleans, Johnté Brister of Richmond, Texas, and Brian L. Brumfield of Bogalusa; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Inez Fields; three sisters, Marcel Fields, Barbara Ann Fields and Mary L. Fields Foster; three brothers, Robert Lionel Fields, Arcel Fields and Joe Nathan Fields.

Visitation will be held at Greater Salter Chapel A.M.E. Church, located at 920 Dan St. in Bogalusa, on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 10 a.m. until noon. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. W. Gauthier, pastor, and the Rev. Sherman Berry officiating. Interment will follow in Bogalusa Cemetery.
