Arbor Day was founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska City, Nebraska. By the 1920s, each state in the United States had passed public laws that stipulated a certain day to be Arbor Day or Arbor and Bird Day observance.
That date in Louisiana is January 19, according to Terry “Foots” Quinn. That’s Friday, and in honor of the trees, Quinn plans to give away seedlings and to speak on the importance of trees in the pavilion behind the new stage at Cassidy Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Quinn advises members of the public to bring a sack lunch. He said drinks would be provided.
