Howard A. Hartfield, born in Bedico on June 22, 1940, and a longtime resident of Varnado, died the morning of Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at St. Tammany Hospital in Covington, at the age of 77.

He is survived by his two sons, James (Darla) Hartfield of Bogalusa, and Howard Hartfield Jr. of Varnado; two daughters, Tina Anderson of Fresno, Texas, and Elvora (Robert) Hunt of Franklinton. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Hester J. Hartfield; parents, James “Shorty” and Alice Hartfield; brother, Ernest James Hartfield.

Visitation was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Jan. 8, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Funeral services began at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Chad Jenkins officiating. Burial will be private. Full military services were conducted by the American Legion Post #24.
