Ganey McKay

Ganey Brumfield McKay was born July 5, 1931, in Hackley, to Ganey Brumfield and Emma Cotton Brumfield.
Ganey married Albert McKay at an early age, and to this union seven children were born. She also acquired one godchild that she raised as her own.
She joined New Hope Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. Early Garrett at an early age. She also joined Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Mallory Callahan, there she was active in the Senior Choir, Senior Mission, volunteered on the Kitchen Committee, made baskets for the needy at Christmas, and was active in the Outreach Ministry at the Nursing Home.
She leaves to cherish her memories five sons, Lonnie (Betty Jo) McKay of Franklinton, Lanester McKay, Alvin McKay, both of Franklinton, Ronnie McKay of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Larry McKay of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Lymonia Hart of Franklinton, and Elma Lee McKay of Houston; one god-daughter, Janice Magee of Mt. Hermon; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
Ganey was preceded in death by her parents, Ganey and Emma; three brothers, Leo Brumfield, Harvey Brumfield Sr., and Ezekiel Brumfield; one sister-in-law, Irene Brumfield; and one grandson, Benny T. McKay.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, located at 2000 Washington St. in Franklinton. The funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. at Sweet Rest Baptist Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Nakia McKay officiating.
