Bernell Jones

Arrangements for Sister Bernell R. Jones, who passed away on Dec. 20, 2017, have been completed. She was a retired educator with the Washington Parish School System for more than 37 years. Ms. B. R., as she was affectionately known, touched the lives of many students who entered her classroom.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted husband, Douglas Jones; sons, Byron (Terri) Johnson and Derrick Johnson of Baker, Teman (Allison) Roberts of Port Allen, and Hersey Ford of Ruston; daughters, Dr. Saecilia D. (Reggie) Jackson of Covington and Ayana L. (Arthur) Waltz of Fresno, Texas; her mother, Mrs. Roxie Anna Roberts of Angie; brothers, Willie H. (Tina) Roberts Sr. of Pride, Vernice (Janice) Roberts of Concord, Calif., Kenneth (Chloe) Roberts Jr., Oliver Roberts, and Larry Roberts Sr. of Angie; and sisters, Maxine (James) Giles of Lufkin, Texas, Rev. Gaynell R. Simon of Baton Rouge, and Lucretia Y. (Kenneth) Pope; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish a god-daughter, Christine Green Bickham; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hersey Lee Roberts Sr.; and sisters, Charlene Roberts and Nellie Mae Goodloe.

Visitation will be held at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. A family hour will be held from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at Live Oak United Methodist Church, located at 65701 Live Oak Road in Angie, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at noon, with the Rev. Terrence August officiating.

The interment will be in Live Oak Cemetery.
