Arrangements for Sis. Alvenia Nichols have been finalized at Cook-Richmond and Son Funeral Home on Columbia Street in Bogalusa.
The funeral home will begin visitation on Friday, Dec. 15, from 3 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. A family hour will be held at the funeral home chapel from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for Sis. Nichols on Saturday, Dec. 16, at noon at the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located at 63428 Jones Creek Road in Angie. Dr. Linza Rae Cotton is the pastor.
On Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at 7:55 p.m., the death angel came quietly upon Sis. Alvenia Nichols at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.
She was the last child of five children born to Bro. Walter Beck Sr. and Sis. Mazie Stevenson Beck Collins, on April 7, 1949, in Bogalusa.
Sis. Nichols joined the 2nd Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, in Bogalusa, and graduated from Central Memorial High School with the Class of 1967 Spartans.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Bro. Donald Ray Nichols on May 15, 1971, in Bogalusa. To this union, three beautiful children were born: Donald Scotel, Racie LaDonrice, and Kendrick Lemond Nichols.
Sis. Nichols joined New Zion under the leadership of the late Rev. A. L. Owens after she was married. She remained an active and faithful member of the New Zion family under the leadership of Dr. Linza R. Cotton until her health began to fail in 2016.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Racie Nichols Porter, eight months prior to her death; her parents; Bro. Walter Beck Sr. and Sis. Mazie Arnell Stevenson Beck Collins; her siblings, sister Pauline Arnell Beck-Brown and brother Walter Beck Jr.; her grandparents, Bro. James and Sis. Eula Stevenson, and Bro Eli and Sis. Carnelia Beck; in-laws, Duncan “Buddy” and Argie Walker Nichols; brothers-in-law, Freddie Patterson, Oneal Moore, Hershel Nichols, Charles Prater, and Bobby Carroll Nichols; her sisters-in-law, Gloria Dean Nichols Porter, and Lillie Jean Sartin Nichols; and her godparents, Rev. and Mrs. A. L. Owens.
Survivors include her dedicated, caring and loving husband of 46 years, Donald Ray Nichols; her sons, Donald Scotel (Tina) Nichols, Kendrick (Valencia Shai) Nichols, Kelvin Moses Sr., Eric Magee; her godson, Kendall (Monique) Moses; her daughters, Chantea (Baron) Jones, Erica Magee (Troy) Walton.
She leaves her love to a dear grandson whom she has helped rear, Timothy Porter Jr.; her siblings, Verteal Patterson, and Deacon Alvin (Bobbie) Beck and John (Linda) Beck; her god-daughters, Teandrea Moore, and Angela Newkirk; her sisters-in-law, Stella M. Beck, Bobbie (Alvin) Jean Beck, Gloria Jean (James) McNair, Maevella N. Moore, Carrie Green Gayden, Clementine Nichols, Rosetta Burrell, and Patricia Nichols; a devoted niece, Carla Denise (Willie) Jenkins; her very special friends, Essie Pearl Owens Newkirk, Gilda Martin, Fannie Roberts, Elaine Foster Morris; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
