Shirley Pitre

Shirley Day Pitre passed away peacefully on Nov. 29, 2017, after a brief illness. She was born in Slaughter, on Feb. 18, 1935.
Visitation was held at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 4 p.m. until service time at 6 p.m. conducted by Pastor Leroy McElveen. Graveside service was at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, at LA National Cemetery in Zachary.
Mrs. Pitre was a member of Red Bluff Baptist Church in St. Helena Parish. Past memberships include First Baptist Church of St. Francisville and Foster Road Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Mrs. Pitre loved the Lord and taught Adult Bible Classes for many years. She worked as a church secretary for Foster Road and Istrouma Baptist Church.
She graduated from Istrouma High School in 1952 and married her high school sweetheart, Harold Pitre in 1953.
She is survived by a brother, Tom M. Day; and five daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Jerry and Lou Ann Thomas, Richard and Susan Love, Jimmy and Karen Miller, Jerry and Laura Jones, and Todd and Carol Campbell; 11 grandchildren, Dr. Jason and Kathryn Thomas, Juston Pitre and Angela Thomas, Lander and Melissa Thomas, Joanna Day Thomas, Jennifer and Caleb Wilkinson, Jim and Hannah Miller, Cathy and Gary Mason, Christopher and Donna Jones, Jarred Jones, Morgan and Wyatt Campbell; and 13 great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Jon-Ashton, Lily, Abrie, Landry, Rush, Cole, Katelynn, Camryn, Jesse, Conner, Hunter and Parker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harold Ray Pitre; grandson, Jonathan Love; and parents, T.H. and Ollie Day.
Pallbearers were her grandsons. The family would like to thank the Modern Home Health and Hospice Team for their loving care.
