Nick Harvey Smith

Nick Harvey Smith, 84, a resident of Thomas, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at his home.
He was a Baton Rouge Police officer for 20 years and then a supervisor with Dixie Life Insurance for 25 years. Nick was a member of Thomas First Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War Era, having served in Germany. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his favorite pastime was talking about and watching his beloved LSU Tigers football team.
He is survived by: his wife, Carolyn Thomas Smith of Thomas; son, Grant Thomas of Thomas; grandson and spouse, Trenton Grant Thomas and Brittnei Thomas; brother, Jerry Smith of Central; sister, Evon Smith of Tangipahoa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Randy and Jackie Thomas, Betty Lou and Harold Thomas, and Helen Thomas; and also numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Vivian Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Elizabeth Thomas; brother-in-law, Horace Thomas; and special uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Bankston.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. until noon. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at noon Saturday, Dec. 2, with the Rev. Shad Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery.
