Pearl Mitchell

Dr. Pearl Thomas Mitchell was born March 29, 1947, to the late Willie and Evie Thomas of Tylertown, Miss. She departed this life on Oct. 31, 2017, in American Canyon, Calif.

She attended Southern University and graduated with a B.S. degree in English. After graduating from Southern University, she moved to California. She then attended San Diego State University, where she received an M.S. degree in Educational Guidance and Counseling. From there, she moved to the University of California, Berkeley, and added an M.A. degree in Political Science and her Ph.D. in Policy Analysis and Administration.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, located at 837 E. Seventh St. in Bogalusa, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Christopher Matthews, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in the Bogalusa Cemetery.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Evie Fields of Bogalusa; two brothers, Cedrick and Joseph Thomas of Bogalusa; sisters, Josephine Thomas, JoNell Harry, Alfreda Weary, and Francis Wasp of Bogalusa, Barbara Burton of Colorado, and Ora Brock of Franklinton; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cab Mitchell; her father, Willie Thomas; a brother, Lionel Brock; and a sister, Almeta Robinson.
