Merrel Flynn

Merrel Flynn, born Dec. 12, 1937, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2017, at the residence at the age of 79. Merrel was born in the Crossroads, Miss., community and was a resident of Bogalusa. He was a supervisor in the printing department at the Crown Zellerbach Multi-Wall bag division until he retired. Merrel loved the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish with his family and he also was of the Baptist faith.
He left behind two sons, Tommy Flynn and his wife Charmaine of Bogalusa, and Terry Flynn and his wife Suzanne, also of Bogalusa; two brothers, Joe Flynn and his wife Wella Mae Flynn of Crossroads, and Tony Flynn and his wife Iris of Pearl River; two sisters, Alracea Saucier and her husband Kenneth of Bogalusa and Ada Evangeline “Vangie” Fortenberry and her husband Charles, also of Bogalusa; grandchildren, Gina (Christopher) Crawford, Dustin Flynn, Candice Flynn, and Stephen (Sarah) DeCarlo; six great-grandchildren, Bentley Crawford, Levi Crawford Liza Jane Crawford, Tyler Voss, Parker DeCarlo and Aiden DeCarlo; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Joyce Flynn; three brothers, Glendle Flynn, Ferrel Flynn and Darwin Flynn; two sisters, Jimmie Lou Varnado and Sherry Flynn Irvine; and a grandson, Cory Flynn.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, beginning at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and resumed Sunday, Oct. 15, after 8 a.m. until the service time at noon. Bro. Jimmy Byrd officiated the services and the interment followed in the Ponemah Cemetery.
