Our Lady of the Angels Hospital recently announced that it has partnered with ADAPT, Inc., Washington Parish’s Rape Crisis Center, and the Lambda Omicron Undergrad Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Southeastern Louisiana University, to provide enhanced care and compassion to local victims of sexual assault.

ADAPT, Inc. has sponsored Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training for three of Our Lady of the Angels emergency department nurses. The SANE program allows survivors of sexual trauma to have a forensic exam or a “sexual assault evidence collection kit” collected by a nurse specially trained in collecting evidence and working with victims of sexual assault.

The primary mission of the SANE program is to meet the needs of a sexual assault survivor by providing immediate, compassionate, culturally sensitive and comprehensive forensic evaluation and treatment by a professional nurse trained in the parameters of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners standards.

The Lambda Omicron Undergrad Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Southeastern Louisiana University, collected hundreds of personal care items and assembled care packages for victims. These care packages are provided to every sexual assault victim that comes through Our Lady of the Angels Emergency Department.

Hospital officials said that OLOAH and the partnering organizations are committed to standing with victims, standing against violence, and providing the best possible care to those most in need.
