Doris Taylor

Sis. Doris Taylor was born June 30, 1932 to the late River George and Lucille Patterson Smith. She departed this life on Oct. 7, 2017.

In her early childhood, Sis. Taylor became a member of Bladesfield Church of God in Christ, where she continued until her health failed.

She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Jerry Elzie of Mt. Hermon; six daughters, Mildred Elzey and Bernie Jones of McComb, Miss., Emma McElveen and Linda Dillon of Mt. Hermon, Diane (Joseph) Reed of Magnolia, Miss., and Earnestine Vaughn of New Orleans; three grandchildren in which she raised, Dewayne (Rhonda) Elzey, Asia and Arion Dillon; one sister, Shirley (Wallace) Miller of Mt. Hermon; brothers, Milton Smith, Larry (Orlethia) Martin and Harold Martin of Mt. Hermon, and Jethro Martin of New Orleans; 32 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Hollis Elzie; two sisters, Barbara Martin and Betty Tate; three brothers, J.C., George and Leanord Smith; one grandson, Lee Varnado; and one granddaughter, Dorothy Diggs.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 13, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Cook-Richmond Funeral Home in Franklinton, followed by a Family Hour from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 14, at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Progress, Miss., at 11 a.m.
