Council hears updates from BPD, BFD

During the Bogalusa City Council meeting Tuesday, the city’s police and fire departments gave their monthly reports.

In September, the Bogalusa Fire Department responded to 103 calls, according to Chief Richard Moody. They included three structure fires, five grass fires, one vehicle fire, five motor vehicle accidents, 73 medical assists, six citizen assists, three natural gas or power lines, three animal problems, and four false alarms.

Lt. David Miller, who reported for the Bogalusa Police Department, said September was particularly busy. He said the police responded to 1,300 complaints and made 232 arrests in September. Twenty-eight of the arrests were for felonies, 113 were for misdemeanors, and 91 were for traffic violations, of which two were for DWI.

Miller said the BPD also responded to 39 accidents, and provided 11 escorts.

The BPD report includes year-to-date. It shows the police responding to 11,517 complaints from January through September. Arrests totaled 2,038, and 222 of them were felony arrests, 1,027 were for misdemeanors, and 789 were for traffic violations, of which 30 were for DWI.

Miller said the BPD also responded to 425 accidents, and provided 72 escorts.
