Maj. Percy Knight of the Bogalusa Police Department said that officers arrested a Bogalusa man for drug Saturday, after the man fled following an attempted traffic stop, before eventually crashing.

Knight, the public information officer for the BPD, said that on Saturday at 2:13 p.m., BPD Officer Bryce Jarreau attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle with no license plate traveling on Florence Avenue. Knight said the vehicle would not stop for Jarreau, and a pursuit began with the vehicle traveling south on Florence Avenue.

Knight said that the suspect’s vehicle was traveling west on Riverside Drive, and as he approached the intersection of Sullivan Drive, the driver went around a vehicle that was stopped at the intersection and proceeded straight across Sullivan Drive without stopping. Knight said that the suspect’s vehicle was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling northbound on Sullivan Drive, causing the suspect’s vehicle to spin approximately three times.

The suspect, Detrich D. Magee, 27, of Bogalusa, was apprehended and placed under arrest. During the inventory and search of the vehicle, officers observed a small blue pill, suspected to be ecstasy, in plain view in the driver’s side door handle, Knight said.

Magee was arrested and booked on the charges of turning-signal required 100 feet prior to turn, speeding, disobeyed stop sign, criminal damage to property, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of ecstasy (Schedule I drug), vehicle license required, reckless operation of a vehicle, no insurance and driving while license is suspended.
