Reather Miller

Reather Dunaway Miller was born on Jan. 12, 1932, and passed away on Sept. 16, 2017, in Bogalusa, at the age of 85.

She was the widow of U.S. Navy World War II veteran Alvin David Miller.

She was also preceded in death by her father, Heber Dunaway Sr. (Helen); her mother, Etta M. Dunaway Hedrick (Howard Buddy Hedrick); a brother and sister-in-law, C.J. Dunaway Sr. (Janie); her half-brother Howard Dunaway; her son, Davie Alvin Miller; and her grandson, Jeffory Lane Miller.

Reather is survived by a sister, Leatha Dunaway; her half-brother, Heber Dunaway Jr.; her daughter, Alicia M. (Luke) Crain; her adopted son (grandson), Howard David (Melinda) Miller; her grandsons, Michael Clay (Lila) Crain and Gregory Scott (Kathleen) Miller; and one granddaughter, Kandi Rae Crain. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and many treasured nieces and nephews.

She was the matriarch of five generations, and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Now she rests in the arms of Jesus Christ. Reather was member of Palestine Baptist Church and will be buried at Lee’s Creek Church Cemetery, next to her husband and baby girl.

Visitation began on Monday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. until the service time of 2 p.m., all being held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Brumfield officiated and pallbearers were Clay Crain, Cade Crain, Gregory Miller, Zachory Miller, Joshua Miller and Justin Rester.
