For five years now, the Bogalusa Senior Center has been hosting a Health and Resource Fair that offers flu shots, health and wellness screenings, “goodie bags,” and a lot of information.
Summer Sammons, an administrative assistant for the Washington Parish Council on Aging, said that typically 100 to 150 senior citizens take advantage of the offered services.
The fair is designed to increase health awareness for seniors in the community through education and prevention. Seniors can not only get a flu shot at the fair, they can also learn about senior programs within the local community.
This year, 18 vendors took part.
Rita Clayton was delighted.
“I think this is great,” she said. “And more people should come.”
