District Attorney Warren Montgomery said Tuesday that Lance Grandison, 32, of Franklinton, has been sentenced to mandatory life in prison for raping a 5-year-old girl about six years ago.

Grandison was convicted in August of first-degree rape, which carries a mandatory life sentence without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.

Grandison knew the family of the victim, now 11, who had been left in his care when the incident occurred in 2011. The victim disclosed the rape last year to her mother, who contacted the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office. Grandison was later arrested on a warrant.

A Washington Parish jury voted unanimously to convict him on Aug. 10. The sentencing hearing was Thursday, Sept. 7.

Assistant District Attorneys Jason Cuccia and Casey Dieck prosecuted the case before District Judge William Knight.
