Spencer Graves

Spencer William Graves, 20, a resident of Franklinton, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2017, at West Jefferson Medical Center following a work-related accident.

He was a 2015 graduate of Bowling Green School where he was a member of the Buccaneers’ basketball team and football team. He was also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and enjoyed attending Trinity Baptist Church. Spencer loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and riding his ATV. He also liked to go boating, skiing and snowboarding. He had a special place in his heart for his pet golden retriever, “Jax.” Spencer loved to spend time with his family and hang-out with his friends.

He is survived by his parents, Philip Graves and Becky Whaley Graves of Franklinton; brother, Samuel Graves of Franklinton; sister and brother-in-law, Shelly Graves Thomas and Jared Thomas of Franklinton; grandparents, Eld. J.W. and Marcel Graves, and Elaine Westmoreland, all of Franklinton; nephew and niece, Taylor Thomas and Clara Thomas; companion, Brianna Clothier of Franklinton; and also numerous aunts, uncles, other family members and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joe Whaley.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Acy’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Coleman Knight, Colby Knight, Logan Wood, Donovan Voltolina, Trey Keele, T.J. Taylor and Trevor Cooper.
