Mrs. Rose “MaMa Rose” Mary Butler, 83, transitioned into eternity peacefully on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa. She was born Oct. 3, 1933, in Bogalusa, to Kelly and Neolia (Watson) Manning. She was a product of Central Memorial High School. Rose married Mizell Butler in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1951. She relocated to Bogalusa in 1955.
Rose truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures — chatting with friends and family, gourmet cooking and decorating.
Rose is survived by her son, Adrain Butler of Bogalusa; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Tressie (John) Williams of Milwaukee, Wis.; two brothers, Arnold Manning of Bogalusa and Raymond Manning of Long Beach, Calif.; and extended family members including stepchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and devoted friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mizell Butler; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly and Neolia (Watson) Manning; four children, Linda Butler, Jeanette Butler Sampson, Michael Butler and Larry Charles Butler; three stepbrothers, Robert, Charles and Melvin Manning; and two sisters, Helen Hall and Diane Manning.
Family, friends and others whose lives MaMa Rose touched are invited to attend her homegoing celebration at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, located at 809 E. Third St. in Bogalusa, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, with Elder Robert Peters officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 8, at Crain and Sons from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Interment will be in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
