A Washington Parish grand jury indicted two men Tuesday in separate rape cases, according to officials with the office of District Attorney Warren Montgomery.

The indictments were as follows:

• Landon Scott Spears, 40, of Franklinton, on charges of first-degree rape of a victim under 13. Spears is the suspect in the rape of a child who was 3 years old when the incident occurred between April 1, 2017, and May 28, 2017. UPDATE on 02/29/2024: Confirmed with the District Attorney’s Office that on August 9, 2018, Landon Spears was found not guilty of the charges mentioned here.

• Gary W. Mayfield, 64, of Shreveport, on charges of aggravated oral sexual battery of a victim under 12, aggravated rape of a victim under 12, and aggravated incest. His alleged crimes took place from June 13, 1999, when the victim was 9 years old, through Aug. 1, 2004.

The dates of any future hearings or trials were not immediately announced by Montgomery’s office.
