District Attorney Warren Montgomery said that a Washington Parish jury found Lance Grandison, 32, of Franklinton, guilty Thursday, Aug. 10, of raping a 5-year-old girl about six years ago.
Grandison faces a mandatory life sentence without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence at a hearing on Friday, Aug. 25, before District Judge William Knight.
Grandison knew the family of the victim, now 11, who had been left in his care when the incident occurred in 2011, Montgomery said. The victim disclosed the rape last year to her mother, who contacted the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office. Grandison was arrested later on a warrant.
The jury deliberated about 38 minutes before returning a unanimous guilty verdict to first-degree rape.
Assistant District Attorneys Jason Cuccia and Casey Dieck prosecuted the case.
